I am sitting here watching Anderson play with all of his new toys in our living room as I type this entry. As I look at all of the "stuff" of Christmas, I am most thankful for God's gift to us. Christmas toys are great and all, but knowing that Anderson will be raised in a Christian home where prayer and a close relationship with God are an everyday part of life makes me happy and filled with peace. During church services leading up to Christmas I cried at nearly every service during the praise and worship songs. I think there is something very emotionally charged about having a son and celebrating Christmas. I can't even pretend to understand what Mary felt like when she literally gave birth to the savior of the world, but I know how much I love the little boy playing at my feet right now and I can't imagine the outcome that Jesus had for our sweet son...death on a bloody cross. That thought is what has kept me in tears during the last several church services.
There is a song called "Mary Did you Know" that my husband has pretty much banned me from listening to again, but I want to share the lyrics with you. I think for any young mother and particularly those with sons its message is so powerful...
"Mary Did You Know"
[Originally written by Mark Lowry and Buddy Greene]
Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy would one day walk on water?
Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy would save our sons and daughters?
Did you know
that your Baby Boy has come to make you new?
This Child that you delivered will soon deliver you.
Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy will give sight to a blind man?
Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy will calm the storm with His hand?
Did you know
that your Baby Boy has walked where angels trod?
When you kiss your little Baby you kissed the face of God?
Mary did you know.. Ooo Ooo Ooo
The blind will see.
The deaf will hear.
The dead will live again.
The lame will leap.
The dumb will speak
The praises of The Lamb.
Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy is Lord of all creation?
Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy will one day rule the nations?
Did you know
that your Baby Boy is heaven's perfect Lamb?
The sleeping Child you're holding is the Great, I Am.

Welcome Christmas Card Newbies!
Since we put our blog address on our Christmas Card this year, some of you are visiting our blog for the first time!!! This all started as an experiment that I was pretty sure wouldn't last...how in the world do you have time to keep up with this and a VERY active 18 month old! Then I changed my mind. When I was about to scrap the whole thing I learned just how many people (family to be exact) were enjoying reading our blog! With Jeff's family and both of my sisters living out of state it was pretty much the best way to keep everyone updated on Anderson's latest activities, and a heck of a lot easier and cuter than sending out 5 or 6 emails. As an added bonus we figured out how to get it in a format for saving, so we can print it out like a journal that we can save and show Anderson when he gets older. For those two reasons I consider it worth keeping up with...and I think my sisters would probably kill me if I discontinued it and they couldn't get their "Anderson Fix"!
So how does it work....Pretty simple actually. I try to update the blog weekly (sometimes more often if we have lots of fun stuff we want to share). You can save it as a favorite and check it every once in a while. Then you can read the latest post and scroll down for any that you might have missed since your last visit. Along the right side you will also notice a list of other blogs from friends and other notable websites. Once you are on their page you can click on their friends and so on.... It gets to be a pretty small world!! Enjoy and Merry Christmas!!

The Cousin Christmas Party
Last weekend Jeff and I hosted our family's annual "Cousin" Christmas Party. When I was growing up our family was small enough to fit it all in on Christmas Eve. Our Cousins from Gordo would come to my grandparents house in Moundville for dinner and a good long visit. Then when they left my immediate family would stay there and open our gifts and they would all return to Gordo and open their gifts! I can't tell you how many schemes Torrey, Quinn and I hatched in order to speed up this little visit so we could get to our respective gift opening! We had tantrums, faked illness, you name it!

Christmas on the River and that nasty Santa guy again...
Peggy really thought of everything. She had a single string of lights forming a barricade so the kids know where to stop before ending up over a cliff and in the river! She also had tons of little hay bales with little red tablecloths over them for the kids to sit at and eat while they watched the parade! There were tables everywhere with sliced up peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and other kid cuisine! The kids had a blast playing outside in the yard while the mommies and daddies just tried to keep up with which kid was where! I can't tell you how many times that night a parent wandered around looking for a missing child! They can get away so fast!!!

Polar Express
Sunday night we traveled to Calera (just outside of Birmingham) to an event called the Polar Express. Jeff, Anderson and I along with 70 of our friends...yes, you read correctly 70...boarded a passenger train and headed to the "North Pole". As we settled in for our train ride the lights were dimmed and the book The Polar Express was read over the loudspeaker. About 20 minutes later we magically arrived at the North Pole that was all lit up with Christmas lights. You could even see Santa's workshop. At that point Santa, Mrs. Claus and several elves boarded the train. We sang Jingle Bells, Frosty the Snowman and several other Christmas songs as the elves gave each child a gift and a sleigh bell to use during the caroling. Santa came over to each family individually to talk to the children and take pictures. Then the elves served us chocolate milk and cookies for our ride back to the station.
Since we had so many people in our group we were actually given our own train car, which came in very handy since Anderson made really good use of the aisles! He ran up and back during most of the ride. I was really glad I knew all of the people in our car so that I could give Anderson a little freedom and not spend the whole ride trying to contain him in a seat!! He was a little hard to handle at a few points during the night, but there were also some really sweet moments that made me glad we went even if we were concerned that he might be a bit young for the event. Anderson loved the caroling. He clapped and screeched with delight as we sang Jingle Bells and the look on his face when he got a cookie from an elf was priceless (he never gets sweets). However, as I feared he was not a big fan of Santa. He seemed Ok until Santa actually tried to pick him up. He was even very sweetly singing to him, but Anderson just was NOT having any part of it! Oh well maybe next year!

Happy Birthday Giulianna!
Anderson's little friend, Giulianna had her first Birthday Party on Saturday. She looked adorable in her pink Tutu! She was so happy to see everyone and spent the whole party laughing, dancing and enjoying all of her guests! Anderson was sort of in a funk as it was his nap time, but he did manage to hang in there for a little while!
